Ayurveda is one of India's ancient culture that promotes "Alternative Medicine" as cure to various diseases and illness. It was not only used as basis for the discovery of India's herbal remedies but Ayurveda was also practiced as a way of living for hundreds of years throughout the country's history. According to research, the original scriptures of Ayurveda have recommended the right ways of doing all the life activities. The concept of Ayurveda revolves around healthy living by eating the right diet combined with constant exercise and daily consumption of essential Indian herbs that strengthens the body's immune system.

Another important detail of Ayurveda is massage. Aside from famous Ayurvedic alternative medicine, massage is considered as a daily routine and not just a cure for body aches or movement difficulties. In fact, each Indian child receives everyday massage right after birth so on. Ayurvedic massage are also used for various issues like gaining post natal strength for a new mother. Aside from regular massage, the system also recommends many special types of massages such as Abhyanga, Garshana, Shirodhara etc.


Herbs and vegetables are also vital to Ayurveda. The practice stresses the use of vegetable drugs. Fats are used both for consumption and for external use. Hundreds of vegetable drugs are employed, including cardamom and cinnamon. Some animal products may also be used, for example milk, bones, and gallstones. Minerals, including sulfur, arsenic, lead, copper sulfate and gold are also consumed as prescribed. This practice of adding minerals to herbal medicine is known as Rasa Shastra.


Until today, Ayurveda remains an influential system of medicine in South Asia. The earliest literature of Ayurveda appeared during the Vedic period in India. The Sushruta Samhita and the Charaka Samhita were influential works on traditional medicine during this era. Ayurvedic practitioners also identified a number of medicinal preparations and surgical procedures for curing various ailments and diseases.
